OLADAPO Daniel Oyebanjo (popularly known as D’Banj) has weighed in on the ongoing media feud between two well-known musicians, Peter Okoye of PSquare fame and Seun Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Peter Okoye (aka Mr. P.) had taken exception to Seun’s description of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi as an “opportunist” who is capitalising on the desire of Nigerians for genuine change in the political leadership of the country, particularly as the nation goes to the polls later in the month.
In an interview with Channels TV, Seun Kuti had described the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as an opportunist. He also said only Nigerians could save Nigeria; not Obi, who is the choice of Peter Okoye.
However, Okoye, who was not comfortable with Kuti’s statement, responded to him on Twitter. He wrote, “Dude just erased his father’s history. You said only the people of Nigeria can save Nigeria. Is Peter Obi and other candidates not Nigerians?
The exchange between the two artists has elicited reactions from across a wide spectrum of Nigerians. Ostensibly lending support to Mr. P., D‘banj has this to say.
“Peter Okoye was born in the North and he is marrying a Yoruba woman who is 8 years older than him without his family’s approval.
“Peter Okoye has spent his entire life in the North and Yoruba land. Peter Okoye has not lived in Igbo land in his entire life.
“This shows that Peter Okoye is a detribalised Nigerian.
“Peter Okoye is supporting who he believes can fix Nigeria not because of tribe.
“Seun Kuti has a low IQ due to substance abuse and should focus more on music than ranting on social media without offering a solution to Nigeria’s problem”.
