SUSPENDED Jigawa State Commissioner of Special Duties Auwal Danladi Sankara is now off the hook following allegations of adultery with a married woman levelled against, which led to his suspension from office.
Eighteen-Eleven Media had, on 19 October 2024 reported the arrest of Auwalu Danlladi Sankara by Kano Hisbah for making out with a married woman in an uncompleted building in Kano, although he denied the accusation, describing it as politically motivated by his unnamed political enemies.
The Kano State Hisbah Board later confirmed his arrest and detention for allegedly having an amorous affair with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
Sankara was allegedly caught red-handed with the married woman, Hisbah, the state Sharia police said.
The suspended commissioner, in a statement he signed, refuted the allegation which he said had no iota of truth. He said it was concocted by unnamed political elements to tarnish his image.
The arrest followed a complaint by Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, who accused the commissioner of engaging in an illicit affair with his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, the mother of his two children.
However, the Shar’ia Court, while delivering its judgment on Monday, 18 November, dismissed the accusation.
Judge Ibrahim Yola, in his judgment, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies into the matter.
He also cautioned that allegations involving prominent figures should be handled with utmost care to avoid damaging their reputations without proper evidence.
The court held: “Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove that there was any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu.”
He further stated that the complainant, alongside his legal representatives, failed to appear before the court to contest the findings by the police on the matter.
“Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to challenge the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case,” the judge concluded.
