THE management of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, has expressed shock and sorrow over the unfortunate road accident involving Heartland FC of Owerri, which reportedly claimed the life of Coach Christian Obi
The condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued and signed by the Executive Chairman of the Oluyole Warriors, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro.
“We convey our heartfelt sympathy to our brothers, Heartland FC of Owerri, over the death of their coach, Christian Obi, who passed on Friday, from the ghastly accident involving the team.
“We received with sorrow the news of the road mishap which occurred near Okigwe while the team was on its way to Abakaliki to compete in the Tico/preseason Tournament i.
“We are deeply saddened over the demise of coach Christian Obi who passed on as a result of the unfortunate incident
“We share in the grief of the entire Heartland FC, Imo State and the Nigerian football fraternity as a whole.
“It is our prayer that God grants the late Obi eternal rest and console his immediate and extended family.
“We wish the injured players and officials, who are presently receiving treatment, quick recovery”.
Meanwhile, Eighteen-Eleven Media earlier reported that no one died in the accident according to a statement from the media department of the club.
The statement pointed out that the accident occurred while on the way to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-Season Tournament.
“The accident happened at Umunna, close to Okigwe, still within Imo State.
“The vehicle, in its attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle, collided with another carelessly parked vehicle from another accident.
“Though no death was recorded some players and officials sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital”, the statement read.
