THE Ola Olukoyede-led management of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) yesterday 25 January 2025 honoured officers who discharged their assignments excellently in the course of the year 2024.
Among the recipients were 35 officers and 30 Sections of the Commission.
The breakdown shows that 20 officers emerged from each department as Staff of the Year, while 15 prosecutors were honoured from each Zonal Directorate for securing the highest convictions.
Awards for the highest recoveries and highest convictions went to 15 Sections each from across the Zonal Directorate; as Sokoto Directorate won the Best Zonal Directorate of the Year.
While the staff of the Year went to CSE Alvan Gurumnaan of the Department of Special Duties, the late ASE I Aminu Harisu Sahabi who paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of duties, got a posthumous award for bravery.
Staff of the Year went home with a brand new car. The Best Staff in departments were rewarded with N500,000 each; Prosecutors of the Year also went home with N500,000. The 30 Sections with the highest recoveries and convictions also went home with One Million Naira each. The Zonal Directorate of the Year was rewarded with One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira only. The Administration Block of the EFCC Academy was named after the late Sahabi.
Meanwhile, as a way of immortalizing the slain officer of the Commission, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE1 Aminu Sahabi Salisu, the Commission has named the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja after him.
Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ola Olukoyede disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday, 25 January, 2025 while addressing staffers of the Commission at the Annual Rewards and Recognition Ceremony held at the EFCC’s Academy.
According to him, Salisu paid the supreme price in the service of the nation and his memory should be kept alive. “We are saddened by the loss of our officer while on official assignment. He was a gallant officer and to this effect, the administrative block of the Academy is hereby named after him”, he said.
Commenting on the winners of various rewards, the EFCC boss stated that ‘’I want to congratulate all the winners for their roles. I can only charge you all not to rest on our oars. Excellence is not about doing things right once in a while, it is about doing things right all the time. You need to continue to offer the best as the reward for hard work is more work’’.
Olukoyede also disclosed that 900 staff had been promoted as well as the reinstatement of life and property insurance for staff.
He used the occasion to warn officers of the Commission against compromise of the core values of the EFCC, stressing that ‘’the internal cleansing going on in the Commission will spare no one’’’.
