PLAYERS of the senior national team of Nigeria have voiced their opinion on the future of the head coach of the team Jose Peseiro to the hierarchy of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),
Nigeria will take on Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in a few hours, a game which could be the last for the coach of the team Peseiro with his contract set to expire the midnight after the game.
Despite having the option of extending his stay for another two years after reaching the target of getting to the semi-final, the coach said he isn’t sure he will extend his stay with the team with reports circulating in Egypt that he has agreed a deal to handle top division side Zamalek.
President of the NFF Ibrahim Musa Gusau, just like he did when the coach was handed an extension which covers the period of the AFCON, contacted the players to get their opinion on the future of the Portuguese coach.
All of the senior players he spoke with made it clear that they are comfortable with the coach staying on and given another target for next year’s AFCON instead of hiring another coach. Especially with the way the team has progressed at the AFCON.
Gusau is expected to meet with Peseiro after the final match of the tournament for a proper discussion. The idea will be to speak with him in the presence of the Minister for Youths and Sports, Senator John Enoh who was key in ensuring that the coach was offered an extension following the expiration of his previous deal.
