NIGERIA’S Super Falcons few minutes recorded their first win in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup when they defeated their Australian counterparts 3-2 at the Brisbane Stadium.
The victory is the fifth ever recorded by the Nigeria senior national team in the history of the Women’s World Cup
The Falcons have recorded only four wins in the history of the competition – two at the 1999 edition (against North Korea and Denmark), against Canada in 2011, and at the 2019 edition, where they also recorded a 2-0 win over North Korea.
With today’s victory, the Super Falcon’s chance of reaching the round of 16 have been boosted after Canada secured a 2-1 victory against Ireland on Wednesday.
The victory meant Nigeria now tops the group with four points and three goals, while Canada is second with the same point but with two goals. Australia is third with three points.
