ANAMBRA State Commissioner of Information, Law Mefor, has announced the arrest of suspected criminals who abducted and murdered a member of the state House of Assembly representing Onitsha North State Constituency I, Hon. Justice Azuka.
According to him: “Government commends the swift and decisive action of the security agencies, who worked tirelessly to fish out the criminals responsible for this heinous act.
“Their efforts are a testament to government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and the efficacy of the state’s new security strikeforce, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, which has been recording strings of successes since its inauguration on 18 January 2025.
“Government firmly assures of its commitment to ensuring that justice is served speedily against the culprits and all those connected with the dastardly act.
“Government again calls on Ndi Anambra to continue to support the efforts of the security agencies and the government of Anambra State to make the state safe for all and crime-free.
“Together, we shall build a safer, more secure, and more prosperous Anambra State where everyone can live, work, invest and enjoy.”
He didn’t give further information.
Meanwhile, the state government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic passing of Hon. Azuka.
The government extended its condolences to the Speaker and members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, his family, and his constituents. The statement was endorsed by Mefor.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that Hon Azuka was on Tuesday, 24 December 2024 abducted while returning home on Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.
A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Hon Azuka had regained his mandate after a court ruling ousted the previous winner, Hon. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was initially declared the winner of the 2023 election.
Police operatives attached to the Inland Town Division, Anambra State on 27 December 2024 announced recovery of the vehicle of the lawmaker.
His decomposing body was recovered yesterday at the 2nd Niger Bridge.
