THE Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) has appointed Nora Hauptle as head coach of the Ghana women’s national team.
Hauptle replaces erstwhile tactician Mercy Quarcoe Tagoe, who left the role following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July 2022.
As a player, she previously suited up for BSC Young Boys, FFC Zuchwil 05, FC Twente Enschade, FC Thun and represented the Swiss national team between 1996 and 2010.
The Swiss also had ample experience coaching women’s teams in Swiss football at the university and professilevel. She was the first coach of FC Thun and was in charge for three seasons.
The 39-year-old also holds a UEFA Pro Licence certificate and previously worked as an Instructor for the Swiss Football Association and Israeli Football Association as head coach and women’s director for the national team.
Hauptle had previously served as the technical advisor of the U20 women’s side, Black Princesses to the U20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022 where they suffered a sixth consecutive exit from the group stage.
She will work alongside Joyce Boatey-Agyei, who will be her first assistant coach, while Aboagye Dacosta will serve as second assistant coach.
On the official Twitter account, the GFA said: “Nora Häuptle has been appointed as the head coach of the senior women’s national team – Black Queens. She will be assisted by Joyce Boatey-Agyei and Aboagye Dacosta.”
Her main task now is to help qualify the Black Queens for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Before then, she will seek to guide the 2018 winners to reclaim the WAFU-B Women’s Cup later this year.
Hauptle has invited two batches of domestic players for camping at the Ghanaian Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.
