Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has described as an embarrassment for ThisDay newspaper its alleged campaign of calumny against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party presidential candidate.
Mr Onanuga in a post on his verified Facebook page alleged that ThisDay newspaper, along with Arise Television’s campaign of calumny against the APC presidential standard-bearer, has now landed both media organisations “in a storm of embarrassment and integrity crisis”.
Mr Onanuga further alleged that working in cahoots with one David Hundeyin, an asylum-seeking Nigerian and Peter Obi supporter, ThisDay has been feasting on the lies ditched out by this so-called investigative reporter to fit its false and malicious narrative against Tinubu.
“But on Friday, the source now openly questioned and disowned its tributary newspaper over a fake report on Dr Kolapo Akande, asking why it didn’t verify his fake tweet.
“Hundeyin had tweeted his usual garbage, misreporting that Akande was the same Akande mentioned in the dead document he has been circulating about Tinubu and also suggesting that Tinubu masterminded his death.
“The unconscionable and wicked lie was exposed hours later: the so-called investigator is a just w mere fraud, an unreliable source of news. He is just like disreputable America’s Alex Jones of Infowars.
“Making a somersault, he now questioned why ThisDay did not verify him.
“Without sounding remorseful, he wrote: “Not sure why ThisDay published such a story without confirming it, but my information now is that Dr Kolapo Akande who just died is the elder brother of Mueez Adegboyega Akande, (who is still very much alive.) As such I’m taking down my earlier tweet with the ThisDay story link”.
While pointing out that Hundeyin has not considered it fit to apologise to Tinubu or the Akandes for “yet another malice”, Mr Onanuga stated that ThisDay still has not considered it fit to pull down the alleged fake news, just like its sister Arise TV did with the fake INEC statement.
