Three suspected members of an armed robbery gang have been smashed in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The suspects, Ibiyemi Wasiri (a.k.a Fellow), 27, Alabi Ojugbele, 20 and Obe Lekan, 18, were arrested on 8th June 2022 at Orita axis of Ilaro, after a botched attempt to escape.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were atop a Bajaj motorcycle, with a defaced number plate, when they sighted policemen from Ilaro Area Command and the Divisional Headquarters on a joint routine patrol.
To evade arrest, the suspects were said to have jumped off the bike and taken to their heels, but could not go far as the operatives, in their hot chase, caught up with them.
A search was conducted on them, during which a locally-made pistol, four live cartridges and assorted criminal charms, were recovered from them.
One of the suspects, Ibiyemi Wasiri, during interrogation, disclosed to the investigating police officers that he was an ex-convict, with a pending case of unlawful possession of a firearm in a magistrate court.
“The suspects all confessed that they were going for a robbery operation at the time of their arrest”, the PPRO said.
In that light, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered their immediate transfer to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
