THE Edo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects in connection with an alleged attempt to kill 23-year-old Esther Alu for ritual purposes in Benin City.
The State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, shared details of the arrest with newsmen in Benin City.
The incident came to light on 22 June 2024, at around 5:19 pm, when the Managing Director of Liberty Hill Hotel, located along Benin-Sapele Road, reported hearing a girl crying in one of the hotel rooms while someone was simultaneously chanting incantations loudly.
In response, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit swiftly arrived at the hotel and rescued the victim.
The three suspects, identified as Osarobo Osaretin (25), Eboigbodin Jude (24), and Maxwell Osagie (24), were arrested on the spot. Various charms were recovered from the suspects, pointing to the ritualistic nature of their intentions.
CP Adegboye emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding citizens from such heinous crimes. The suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
