POLICE have arrested three soldiers and an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who are members of a 13-man armed robbery gang that specialises in hijacking and diverting trailer loads of goods in Rivers State.
Rivers State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement, said they were arrested after the Command received a distress call about burglars attempting to vandalise warehouses in the Elimgbu axis. The statement said the police arrested five suspects who had been beaten by a mob and took them to the police hospital.
She said the suspects confessed to abandoning their posts as security personnel to engage in criminality in Rivers State. They include West Isaac, a corporal in the Nigerian Army serving in Delta State, Lance Corporal Abdul Musa, Lance Corporal Mgbe Geoffrey and Corporal Innocent Okwoli, and another suspect, Jabila Kammangar, also known as ‘Kaka,’ an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps serving in Kabba, Kogi State.
The statement however added that three of the affected soldiers have been dismissed by the Nigerian Army after the police handed them over.
