The former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded presidential primaries of the party.
The self-styled national leader of the APC pulled 1, 271 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the immediate past Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaewho pulled a total of 316 votes.
Vice-President Yemi Oshinbajo came a distant third with a total vote of 235.
Detailed reports of the performance of each of the 16 contestants show that Pastor Tunde Bakare of Citadel Global Community Church, former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, Tien Jack Rich and Chief Ikeobasi Mokelu, General Sani Abacha’s Minister of Information and Culture, all scored zero votes, while the former junior minister of Education Chief Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, though absent at the special convention scored one vote.
Shortly before the commencement of voting, a number of the aspirants had stepped down for Asiwaju Tinubu. The aspirants include the incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, former Speaker of House of Representatives, Demeji Bankole, immediate past Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; incumbent governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar Badru and former Ondo Senator, Professor Ajayi Boroffice. The only woman in the contest, Barr. Uju Ken Ohanenye equally stepped down and asked her supporters to vote for Mr Tinubu.
On his part, Mr Nicholas Felix withdrew from the race for Vice-President Osinbajo, while former Senate President, Ken Nnamani simply announced his withdrawal.
