Tinubu Summons Interior Minister To Aso Rock, As Betta Edu Arrives EFCC Abuja Office

PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to the Presidential Villa.

The summon follows the controversy that has hitched the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation following the award of a consultancy contract to the tune of N438 million, for the National Social Register to the New Planet Projects Ltd, a company Mr Tunji-Ojo  is a beneficial owner.

The invitation of Mr Ojo is coming almost at the same time the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu arrived at the Abuja headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be grilled over alleged N585 million fraud in her ministry.

Dr Edu, who was suspended yesterday 8th January 2024 on the order of thebPresident, was accused of paying funds meant for her ministry into a private account. The N585 million was meant for payment of grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River and Ogun states.

Dr Edu is the first minister to be suspended from office since members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) were sworn in in August last year.
