PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast later today.
Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the president on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, said the address will be broadcast at 7 pm on Monday.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will broadcast to the nation on Monday, 31st July 2023 at 7 pm,” he said.
“Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.”
The broadcast may not be unconnected with ballooning inflation and economic hardship caused by the removal of subsidy on petrol and the threat by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to begin nationwide protest beginning from Wednesday 2nd August.
Speaking recently while receiving All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leaders from across the country, Tinubu said he feels the pains of citizens and assured them that the hardships of the moment will give way to a more “prosperous, equitable and inclusive economy”.
“I can assure you that I understand the pains you are going through. It is not easy to get out of the monster of over 40 years called fuel subsidy,” he said.
On another occasion, the president had assured that the federal government is working on measures to ease the effect of petrol subsidy removal on the masses.
“We shall, without delay, cushion the pains being experienced by our people as a result of these measures through a number of well-targeted interventions aimed at giving adequate relief and succour to a great number of our long-suffering citizens,” Tinubu said.
