PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a list of eleven justices of the Court of Appeal to the Senate for screening and confirmation as justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
There have been reports that 22 justices of the Court of Appeal have been nominated by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) for elevation to the Supreme Court and their names sent to the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The report however became a subject of controversy as the NJC denied knowledge of such a list.
According to the Nigeria Television Authority, the President has sent the 11-man list to the Senate for confirmation. As of the time of this report, the names on the list are yet to be disclosed.
If cleared by the red chamber, the new justices will fill the vacancy which has been existing in the apex court for over 4 years now.
