Troops of Operation Safe Haven in Kaduna have arrested seven suspected bandits terrorising the Mariri community in the Lere Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest, which was greeted with excitement, became a driving force for angry residents to visit their anger on a suspected female accomplice of the gang, Hajiya Bilkisu, who was lynched to death while trying to escape.
Hajiya Bilkisu was alleged to have been keeping the bandits under her roof.
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed that the troops had acted on credible Intelligence to embark on the operation.
The senior civil servant listed the suspects’ names as Musa Adamu, Abdullahi Usman, Suleiman Hasidu, Usman Jibril, Saidu Isah, Hassan Abdulhamid and Idris Sani.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State government has urged security agencies to ensure that their profiling of suspects is thorough.
It has also appealed to the citizens to avoid all forms of jungle justice, while urging them to cooperate with security agencies by availing them of prompt information, to enable them to work in line with the dictates of the law.
