PRESIDENT-ELECT of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has invited China’s President Xi Jinping to his inauguration in January.
This piece of history-making information was made public by the President-elect’s spokesperson.
Trump said in an interview with NBC News conducted on Friday that he “got along very well” with Xi and that they had “had communication as recently as this week.”
It would be unprecedented for a leader of China, a top U.S. geopolitical rival, to attend a U.S. presidential inauguration.
Trump has named numerous China hawks to key posts in his incoming administration, including Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State.
It’s noteworthy to mention that records from the State Department’s Office of the Historian — dating back to 1874 — show that a foreign head of state has never attended a U.S. presidential inauguration.
