Two Arraigned For Alleged Armed Robbery, Gun Possession

A 45-year-old man, Femi Olufade and Abdulateef Umaru were on Monday (today) arraigned before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja for alleged armed robbery and possession of a double barrel gun.

The Defendants are facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, robbery, and armed robbery, preferred against them by the Lagos State government.

Uju Nwogazi, state prosecuting counsel, told the court that the Defendants conspired between themselves to commit the offence. 

Nwogazi said they committed the offence on 13 April 2021, along Owode Apapa Road Badagery area of Lagos State. 

She also told the court that the Defendants, while armed with a shot locally made pistol, robbed one Babagida Abass of his Motorcycle with number plate EKY 620 UM.

Nwogazi further told Justice Oyindamola Ogala that the duo was found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun with six cartridges.

According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened sections 411, 296, and 297 (a) (b), of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the Defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.    

Following their not-guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment for the commencement of the trial. 

Consequently,y Justice Ogala remanded the Defendants at a facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service and adjourned the case till 19 February 2024, for trial.
