BAYERN Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface will not be in action this weekend for his club side, no thanks to a ban placed on him by the German Football Association.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, apart from being banned from one domestic match, and also fined €25 000 following his post-celebration during the Super Cup match.
The German Football Association banned Boniface for one DFB-Pokal match and fined him €25,000 for unsporting conduct after he appeared to show his middle finger towards VfB Stuttgart players while celebrating Bayer Leverkusen’s penalty shootout win in the DFL-Supercup finalThe 23-year-old was allegedly making an obscene gesture, that’s raising his middle finger towards Stuttgart players as he ran past them during post-match celebrations.
Referee Tobias Stieler, who officiated the game, confirmed that he did not witness the gesture, which allowed the DFB’s control committee to pursue further investigation.
The ban means that the player who missed the 2024 African Nations Cup finals due to injury will miss the German Cup match against Carl Zeiss Jena on Saturday.
However, Boniface will be available for selection for the German champions opening Bundesliga match against Borussia Monchengladbach.
