SUPER Eagles forward Ademola Lookman on Friday congratulated Sebastien Haller and Ivory Coast for recently winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Lookman, who admitted that the Super Eagles fell short during the AFCON final against Ivory Coast, insisted that the host nation and Haller are an inspiration to all.
The Atalanta star said this in a tweet via his X account.
“We fell short but we gave everything and we will be back,” the former Leicester City player tweeted.
“Thank you for all the love and support, always grateful for the fans.
“Congratulations to the hosts & Haller, you’re an inspiration to all. God bless Naija.”
Recall that Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the AFCON final.
Haller and Franck Kessie scored the goals for Ivory Coast in the second half, while William Toost-Ekong scored for Nigeria in the closing minutes of the first half.
However, a number of Nigerians have blamed the Eagles’ shambolic display on the day for the poor tactics employed by the Eagles coach José Peseiro. His defensive approach to the game, some believe, caused the Eagles the coveted cup.
Some others say, the players were simply lethargic on the day and failed to put up their splendid best when it mattered most.
