PROFESSOR Jibrin Ibrahim, Senior Fellow, Center for Democracy and Development, has stated that Nigerians are overpraising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because what he’s doing is what he should be doing.
Professor Ibrahim, who spoke during an interview with Arise TV, added that part of what we’ve seen over the last 30 days is supposed to be normal for all new governments, just like the new administration.
He further stated that the last 8 years have shown a high level of bad governance, pointing out that all the promises and covenants made by ex-president Muhammadu Buhari were not met.
According to him, “Part of what we’ve seen over the last 30 days is supposed to be what is normal for all new governments; what is normal is that they have a governance plan, they’ve identified policies they want to implement, they’ve identified strategies, and they put them on execution from day one.
“That is what is normal, but because we are coming from 8 years of non-governance, I think there’s a sense in which we’re overpraising President Tinubu because what he’s doing is what he should be doing.
“You’ve been looking for power for so long; you’ve campaigned; you have a manifesto and all that, and when you actually go back and look at President Buhari’s ‘My Covenant With Nigeria’, all the policy actions outlined there, including fuel subsidy removal from day one, were all in Buhari’s plan, but what did he do? He put it aside.”
