THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has declared the On-Street Parking scheme, also known as the ‘Park-and-Pay’ scheme, as illegal due to alleged fraud in the contract agreement.
Wike made this statement during a media briefing to mark his first year in office as FCT Minister.
He stated that the scheme, reintroduced in 2023, had an unfair agreement where contractors would receive 80% of the revenue, while the government would only receive 20%.
“The point I’m making is that, no matter how you shuffle things, you still have civil servants working with you. It is not easy, but you try as much as possible to reduce it to the barest minimum. But we must continue to fight hard,” he added
The Minister disclosed that contracts such as the Park-and-Pay scheme were arranged in collusion with secretariats within the administration. He emphasized that he was striving to reduce corruption in the system to the barest minimum
