THE Leader of the opposition Labour Party (LP) and the 2023 presidential standard bearer of the party, Mr Peter Obi, has admonished the newly elected leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide led by Senator John Azuta Mbata to work towards peace and unity of the nation.
Writing on his X.com handle in a congratulatory message to the new executive, Obi urged them to leverage their position, which shows the people’s confidence in them to strengthen the Igbo family and unite the country.
“On behalf of my family and the Obidient Movement, I congratulate the newly elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Azuta-Mbata; the Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi; the Secretary-General, Emeka Sibeudu, and other newly elected executive members, on their emergence as the leaders of the noble organisation.
“Their emergence as the leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the umbrella body that unites the Igbo people, underscores the level of confidence and hope the people have in their leadership ability and their commitment to the development of the region and the nation in general.
“I pray that they will leverage their new offices to continue to work for the peace and unity of our nation and contribute immeasurably to ideas that will drive development, peace, and progress among the people.
“May God give you all the wisdom and strength to serve the people.
“A New Nigeria remains POssible.”
Meanwhile, Mr Obi has reversed his statement condemning the federal government over an alleged National Grid collapse.
Reacting to reports of the National Grid collapse, Peter Obi lamented that the collapse has now become a recurring decimal in Nigeria’s national life.
Obi submitted that the constant collapses have caused untold setbacks and hardship for households and businesses in the country.
However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) dismissed reports of any National Grid collapse.
According to the TCN, what occurred was line tripping which affected only Lagos State.
However, in a fresh statement on his X.com handle on Sunday, Peter Obi stated that he was now informed that the grid did not collapse.
He appreciated the TCN for their prompt clarification on the matter.
The former Anambra State governor wrote: “Following my earlier message regarding the alleged collapse of the National Grid, which was based on reports from reputable media platforms, I have since learned that there was no such collapse. Instead, the incident involved the tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines, which affected the Lagos axis.
“I appreciate the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their prompt clarification on the matter.
“I sincerely hope we will prioritise enhancing our infrastructure in the power sector and remain committed to improving power generation to meet the growing needs of over 200 million Nigerians.”
