WUFED Confers Fellowship Award On Kebbi Gov

THE Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic (WUFED), Birnin Kebbi has conferred a fellowship award on Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State for his invaluable contribution to educational development and service to humanity.Ā 

The institution at its 14th Joint Convocation ceremony, yesterday, also honoured Alhaji AbdulSamad Isiyaku Rabiu, the founder of BUA Group with the same award conferred on His Royal Highness, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed, the late Emir of Gwandu, posthumous.Ā 

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event,Ā  called on graduates of polytechnics in the country to strive to be employers of labour.

“You should be job providers and not those waiting for elusive white colour jobsā€, he charged the graduating students of the institution.

The Speaker said that they were fully equipped with knowledge and skills to be able to stand up for themselves.

According to Speaker Abbas, “You should not wait for jobs from the three tiers of government that are no longer available.

“You have been equipped, got practical skills to be independent and build your own careers.

“Endeavour to be employers of labour right from the word go and be fully self-reliant.”

The Speaker charged the graduates to take their future in their hands.

He acknowledged the myriad of giant strides recorded by the institution in all ramifications and urged the management to uphold the trend.Ā 

Speaker Abbas also extolled the tremendous achievements recorded by Governor Nasir Idris, describing him as a reliable friend.

He said, “The governor is second-to-none in the contemporary set of governors in Nigeria and he should keep it up.”

Abbas also congratulated Dr Idris for being honoured by the Polytechnic.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr Tanko Yusuf Sununu, who represented President Bola Tinubu, affirmed the commitment of the incumbent administration to massive improvement of the education sector.

Earlier, the Rector of the school, Dr Usman Tunga, thanked President Tinubu and the National Assembly for allocating additional funding to the institution which enhanced its infrastructural development, and improved teaching, learning and research, that consolidated its ability to attain excellence.Ā 

“Already, the polytechnic has been designated as the Centre of Excellence on Renewable Energy”, he said.Ā 

He announced that at the moment, the polytechnic has secured affiliation with the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, to run BSC Degree courses in Computer Science, Microbiology, Statistics, Architecture, Building Technology, Accounting as well as Business Administration and Management.Ā 

Six sets of graduates from 2019 to 2023 totalling 4,888 were awarded the Higher National Diploma, (HND), National Diploma (ND), and the National Certificate on Education (NCE).Ā
