African Games: South Africa Overtakes Nigeria On Medal Table

SOUTH Africa are now occupying the second sport on the medal table after their good outing in the pool on Wednesday at the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The Rainbow Nation are on 22 gold medals just like Nigeria but they have 10 more silver medals and 14 bronze medals more than Team Nigeria.

Nigeria are third with 22 gold, 13 silver and 22 bronze medals while Algeria are with 20 gold, 27 silver and 30 bronze medals to stay fourth ahead of Tunisia.

Tiny Eritrea are rocking the Games with their sterling performances that have fetched them 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals at the number 8 spot on the table.

So far 29 countries have registered their names on the medal table at the 13th African Games dominated by Egypt.

Egypt, the next host of the Games, have 66 gold, 28 silver and 22 bronze giving them 116 medals. 

As it stands, the battle for the second position is a massive fight among South Africa, Nigeria and Algeria.

Later today Nigeria will take on Senegal in a crucial last group B match in the male football event, a win for either side will land them in the semi-finals. Both teams are on 3 points each.

The Young Cranes of Uganda who are already through to the semi-finals with six points meet South Sudan in the other group B game. South Sudan are yet to pick a point and are out of contention for a place in the last four.
