AN unidentified woman was yesterday, Monday 25 March crushed to death in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos by a Dangote mixer truck.

The truck, marked KANO MDB 531 XA, was said to be on top speed when the driver lost its brake, and in an attempt to swerve into a drainage channel, it trapped the unsuspecting female pedestrian and crushed her to death.

The sad incident, according to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), occurred inward Mobil Filling Station, beside Jubilee Bridge, opposite Zenith Bank.

Adebayo further said that the lifeless body of the victim was evacuated underneath the Dangote mixer truck by LASTMA officials, and immediately handed over to officers of the Motor Traffic Department (MTD) of Oko-Oba Police Division.

The ill-fated truck driver, Adebayo disclosed, was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials, adding that Policemen from Oko-Oba Division provided security backup while the rescue operations lasted.

LASTMA’s Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19, Abule-Egba/Tollgate), who led the recovery operations, confirmed that his team was supported by sympathizers to remove the trapped dead body”, Adebayo said.

In his reaction, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, again warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure that their trucks are properly checked, including the brake system, before embarking on any journey.
