MRS Oluchi Oparah, the suspended National Treasurer of the Labour Party (LP), has presented photographic evidence of structures, alleging their ownership by the National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure.
During an AIT interview, Oparah asserted that these assets were allegedly procured using funds designated for party purposes. It’s noteworthy that Oparah had previously accused Mr Abure of mismanaging Three Billion, Five Hundred Million Naita (N3.500,000,000.00) which resulted in her suspension from her position as the National Treasurer of the party.
Sharing her concerns, Mrs Oparah disclosed that she had been voicing these concerns for seven months, advocating for external audits due to discrepancies in the party’s financial records. She mentioned that even the esteemed national leader of the party had advised Barrister Abure to address the issues. However, Barrister Abure declined the proposal for an external audit, according to her.
She remarked, “These are Abure’s buildings. Before 2023, he never had any of these buildings. These are the Labour Party’s money, they can go and verify. I have written letters for the past seven months and we have met on these issues. Even our national leader who is well respected for his integrity has been in our meeting four or five times telling the national chairman of the Labour Party that there is a need for him to do the needful. What am I asking for? Can we get an external auditor to come and audit the account since there are discrepancies here and there and he said no. “
