Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have commenced investigations to unravel how a one-week-old baby boy was allegedly traded off by his mother for Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) only.

A statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police authority said the baby was seen cuddled by one Chinyere Nwosu in Sango-Otta, crying profusely, and consternated that the supposed mother could not breastfeed him, a scene was created with a mammoth crowd milling around them to catch a glimpse of what was happening.

Full of suspicion that Chinyere was likely to have possessed the baby through one form of dubious means, the Sango-Otta Police Division was alerted and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Dahiru Saleh, detailed his operatives to the scene, from where Chinyere was whisked into the station for questioning, during which she spilt the beans.

She was said to have confessed to buying the baby somewhere in Agege area of Lagos State through one Ngozi Akaeme at the rate of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) only.

Ngozi was tracked and arrested. In her confession, Ngozi claimed that the mother sold the baby for N500,000 but has not given in to police pressure to locate the actual mother.

Oyeyemi said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
