Optima Energy Gold Cup ’22: Shooting Stars, Remo Stars Final, Brotherly Affair, Not War — 3SC Chairman

The Executive Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan has said that the final match of the Optima Energy Gold Cup pre-season tourney between his team and Remo Stars will be a friendly affair devoid of any form of rancour.

The 3SC helmsman, in a media chat, shortly after the Oluyole Warriors humbled Sunshine Stars 3-1at the FC Ebedei Stadium, Sagamu to book a final showdown with the defending champions, said he looked forward to an interesting trouble-free game come Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

“I want to assure you that there is not going to be anything like fracas again between us and Remo Stars. We are good brothers now and we want to tell the fans from both sides that they should just come and enjoy good football.

“There won’t be anything like a fight, even when the league proper starts, we are not going to fight each other, we are brothers, we should not be fighting. Gone are those days when such things happen.

“These days, people want to watch good football and we are going to give them good football. We equally know that Remo Stars are not known for trouble, but fans can cause problems sometimes.

“On our part, we are going to educate our fans, even before the season starts. We will organise orientation programmes, seminars for our fans, to sensitise them, so that when they come to the stadium, they should just sit and enjoy good football.”

Speaking on the performance of the Gbenga Ogunbote tutored team in the ongoing tournament, the former Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, described the team’s good showing as the beginning of good things to come.

“I will tell you that the performance of Shooting Stars as you can see now, is just the beginning of good things to come, we are hoping for the better. Our supporters and fans were not happy with us last season but we have promised to make them happy this coming season and this is just a preparation towards that..”

On the target of the team for the season, Akoro, as the retired referee is popularly known, said. “By the grace of God, God being on our side, our target is to pick one of the continental tickets.”

He also assured that every player signed by the club will be officially unveiled before the commencement of the 2022/23 season.
