A man, identified simply as Usman, has reportedly drowned in a hotel in Ogijo, Ogun State.

A report of Usman’s drowning was made at Ogijo Police Division by one Emmanuel Olaitan, with whom the deceased went to the hotel on the fateful day.

In Emmanuel’s report, he said the unfortunate incident occurred on 28 September, at about 3:00 a.m. at Popoterry Hotel, where they both went for a picnic.

“Tragically, Usman drowned while swimming in the pool”, the Command’s spokesperson (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola disclosed in a press statement.

Odutola further said that the victim’s body was taken to Oladayo Hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead, adding that the remains had been transferred to Jas Mortuary for autopsy.

“The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the drowning”, the PPRO said.

In another development, policemen attached to the Gateway Trailer Park have recovered an abandoned Toyota Corolla car along the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The operatives were said to be on a routine patrol of the area on Thursday, 28 September when, at about 8:10 pm, a concerned citizen drew their attention to the grey colour Toyota car.

“Upon receiving the call, the patrol team swiftly responded and arrived at the location. They found the vehicle as described and safely towed it to the police station for custody and safekeeping”, the PPRO said.

The Command has, however, appealed to anyone with useful information about the owner of the vehicle to contact the Divisional Police Officer at the Ogere Trailer Park.

Similarly, it urges anyone with vital information about the drowning of Usman to volunteer himself to the DPO, “in order to facilitate a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served”
