DSP Olusegun Bamidele, the ninth prosecution witness (pw9) in the murder trial of Chidinma Ojukwu and others, on Monday, told Justice Yetunde Adesanya that it was during investigation that they found out that the Super TV CEO, Micheal Ataga’s drink was spiked with some substance.

DSP Bamidele spoke while giving evidence before a Lagos High Court, at Tafawa Balewa Square.

Chidinma, a 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, is facing trial alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu and Adedapo Quadri. for their alleged involvement in the murder of the businessman.

DSP Bamidele had told the court at the last adjourned date that during his investigation, Chidinma confessed that she spiked Ataga’s drink.

The witness said that he believed the first defendant’s confession.

However, at the resumed hearing on Monday (today), the witness was cross-examined by Quadri’s lawyer, Mr Babatunde Busari.

Busari asked the witness to show where it was written in the statements of the first and second defendants that the deceased’s drink was spiked before his demise.

He answered that it was established during investigation.

The witness also told the court that Chidinma and the deceased smoked some substances and had alcoholic drinks together.

He said that the deceased and Chidinma ordered more sets of the substance when the first set was exhausted.

DSP Bamidele said that the first defendant made it known in her statement.

He said that it was a dispatch rider who delivered the additional substance that Chidinma and the deceased smoked.

He, however, said that all efforts made to get the dispatch rider proved abortive.

After listening to the cross-examination, Justice Adesanya adjourned the case till 20 February 2024 for continuation of trial.

Chidinma and the other defendants were arraigned on 12th October  2021 by the Lagos State government.

Chidinma and Quadri are facing the first to eight counts bordering on conspiracy, murder and stabbing while her sister, Egbuchu is facing the ninth count of stealing an iPhone 7 belonging to the late Ataga.
