They probably must have been counting themselves lucky having succeeded in their nefarious act of robbing innocent members of the public and travelling many kilometres without being detected. But just when they were a few minutes from their abode, the long arm of the law caught up with them.

This is the lot of two suspected armed robbers, who rode on a motorbike to Ogbomoso in Oyo State, to unleash terror on their victims and dispossessed them of various items.

Armed with a cutlass and other lethal weapons, the suspects, 37-year-old Wasiu Opeyemi and Noah Israel, indigenes of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State and Benue State, respectively, were nabbed in the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday, 23 June 2022.

They were said to have been suspected by the Anti-kidnapping operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on routine patrol which forced them to a halt.

Realising that the game was up for them, they made frantic efforts to escape but, before they could make good their escape bid, the operatives had encircled them and taken them to the nearest police station, where a search was conducted on them.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in a press statement, said that the duo, from whom various household equipment were found, owned up to be returning from robbery operations in Ogbomoso.

Some of the items found on both ex-convicts of the Oba Correctional Centre in Ogun State, were two laptops, eleven phones of different types, one Rolex wrist watch, a cash sum of One Hundred and Twenty-Two Thousand Naira N122,000,00) and bags containing household items.

Ironically, one of their victims, who could not meet their demand, was forced to make a transfer of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000) into the account of one of them.

The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered a thorough investigation of the suspects before transferring them to Oyo State where they would face prosecution.
