…Possesses Forged OAU, NMDC Certificates

THE Anti-Piracy Unit of Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested an alleged fake medical doctor in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The 37-year-old Tayo Shakirudeen, the Medical Director of Skylink Medical Centre at Ako-Okuta Block Industry, behind Uncle Bayus Schools, Elepe-Ikorodu in Lagos State, was busted by the SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi-led unit.

A statement issued by the Zone 2 Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), SP Ayuba T. Umma, disclosed that the forged medical certificate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council (NMDC) certificate were found in the suspect’s possession, while his highest educational qualification was a Senior Secondary School certificate.

Ironically, the suspect, whose hospital’s staff strength was six, made up of two trained and four untrained nurses, had successfully carried out three surgeries-two cesarean and one appendicitis, “during his three years of unlawful practice as a medical practitioner, while investigation so far revealed that he has been operating the hospital without a qualified/certified medical practitioner”.

He has, however, confessed to having worked as a Nursing Assistant at Fabo Medical Centre in the Majidun area of Lagos, where he garnered medical experience and decided to establish his own hospital.

He further confessed to sourcing the two certificates found in his possession through electronic production, stating that he neither obtained any degree from the university nor a certificate from the medical council.

His arrest, according to the statement, was based on intelligence gathered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi, through members of the Elepe community, where he had been illegally operating for three years.

A search was consequently conducted at the said medical centre, where the forged documents were unearthed, including numerous immovable hospital equipment.

The Zone 2 Police Command has, following the discoveries, sealed off the hospital complex, pending the outcome of its investigation, the statement revealed.

AIG Durosinmi has, therefore, urged members of the public not to hesitate to give information to the Police whenever they suspect any unlawful practice of any kind.

Meanwhile, the ZPPRO stated that the zonal command was working with the ministries of health in Lagos and Ogun states to rid the zone of such illegal practitioners.
