‘We Owe Him Huge Debt Of Improving Our Democracy’, CUPP Mourns Death Of Frank Kokori

THE Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has said one of the ways to etch the memory of the late labour leader, Chief Frank Kokori in the sands of time was to improve Nigeria’s democracy so that votes will count on election days.

A statement endorsed by CUPP’s National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh and made available to Eighteen-Eleven Media in Lagos said it received the sad news of the passage of the quintessential labour leader “ immense sadness”. 

While nothing that Chief Kokori gave his all including his freedom in the struggle for the enthronement of democratic rule and justice in Nigeria, CUPP insisted that the Delta State-born late unionist was indeed a patriot. 

“We also remember the role he played and the bitter struggle he fought in his lifetime for the revalidation of the annulled June 12, 1993 election.

“Mr Kokori was severally incarcerated by the military junta for his opposition to military dictatorships, but we are comforted in the fact that his struggle for democracy we practice today was not in vain, no matter how imperfect.

“We that are alive owe him that huge debt of improving our democracy so that our votes will count on election days.

“We thank you for your selfless commitment and courage towards building a progressive and prosperous country.

“Our hearts and condolences go to the family he left behind, and may the Almighty God grant him eternal rest.”
