A Manager with Wema Bank Plc, Mr Ojo Oladipupo was yesterday (Wednesday,23rd March 2022):arraigned before Magistrate O. A. Layinka of an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ogba, over an alleged attempt to bribe a police officer.

Mr Oladipupo’s alleged action is with a view to pervert the course of justice in an ongoing One Billion, Seven Hundred Million Naira (N1.700,000,000.00) only money laundering case involving Wema Bank Plc.

The Police alleged that the bank manager visited Area G Police Command and offered an officer, ASP Jonathan Egwumi, some money to scuttle investigations over alleged shady deals involving Wema Bank and the Director of Shibahwell Energy Limited, Adewole Isaac, to the tune of over N1.7bn suspected to be proceeds of illegal activities.

Mr Oladipupo, who might have thought that he would have his way, offered the money, he was immediately arrested and detained at the Command for his conduct and later charged before the Court.

Following the defendant’s plea of “not guilty “, the prosecutor, Supol Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that the defendant actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Layinka, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was subsequently adjourned till 11th April for mention as the matter may likely be consolidated with the sister matter before the court, which warranted alleged offering a bribe to the Police officer.
