The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in next year’s election, Prince Adewole Adebayo has waded into the controversy surrounding the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, pointing out that the court is the only competent institution to handle the case and that nobody should accuse that arm of government of lacking jurisdiction.

The international legal practitioner affirms that: ”We are all bound to respect the order of the court, and if any party is not satisfied by the judgement of the court at the lower level, they can appeal”.

The SDP presidential standard-bearer noted that “given what I know as the basis of the rendition and all that associated with the agitation by IPOB, this is not a matter that can be judicially resolved. It has to be a matter that has to be resolved politically under a strong leadership”.

According to Prince Adebayo, “the best approach is to explore the possibility of an enduring solution. I see no reason why a sitting government would not be able to resolve it.

“I think the government is just oppressing Kanu for nothing. The law is such that the government is supposed to be the protector of the most obnoxious people”.

”In every decision, you take in government, there are winners and there are losers. So what you need to do, as a leader, is to ensure that you chastise the child with the right hand and pamper the child with the left hand”.

Adebayo maintains that government is already powerful, it does not need additional power. What the government needs, according to him, is advice and moderation.

“Any person who does not respect the indivisibility of Nigeria does not have my respect”.

“Anybody who does not respect the diversity of Nigeria, which this government is guilty of, does not have my respect”

“Anybody who does not respect the sanctity of lives of other Nigerians, however, the cause you are following, you cannot use tyranny or any form of force to persuade people to join you. I cannot be with that person”.
