A middle-aged man, Sakiru Famuyiwa, was on Friday 15th of April 2022 arrested in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing two children during a church service.

The two children, aged two and three, were said to be among their peers in the church’s children’s wing at a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Ijeja while the elderly were busy with the “Good Friday” service, unknown to them that two ‘hawks’ in human flesh had penetrated the premises of the church.

The alleged child thieves had successfully picked two of the children and were on their way out when one of the congregants noticed the unusual development and raised the alarm which attracted other members of the church consequence upon which the congregants pursued and apprehended one of them identified as 35-year-old Sakiru Famuyiwa.

The state police command, in a press statement issued by its spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said a distress call was thereafter made to the Ibara Police Division following which the DPO, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, led his operatives to the scene and rescued the suspect from the stranglehold of the irate mob, who were on the verge of lynching him.

The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, in his reaction, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Anti- kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation while ordering a manhunt for the other fleeing member of the syndicate.
