THE Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded a highly deserved 2-1 win over arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly game played in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh Friday evening.

Under caretaker coach Finidi George, it was the Nigeria senior national team who drew first blood with Cyriel Dessers converting from the spot after a handball incident in the box of Ghana.

His goal in the 38th minute had Nigeria going into the break leading the tie.

•Benjamin Tanimu made his Super Eagles debut.

Dessers could have bagged a brace or possibly a hat trick if he was decisive in front of goal.

Nigeria didn’t however increase their lead until six minutes from full time, when Ademola Lookman finished off a well-worked team move to put the Super Eagles two goals up, ten minutes after he was introduced.

Ghana however got a consolation goal when Jordan Ayew converted from the spot in the 5th minute of time added on. A little bit too late as the Super Eagles hung on to claim a first win under Finidi, who is in temporary charge following the exit of Jose Peseiro upon the expiration of his contract at the end of last month.

Up next for the Black Stars of Ghana with a returnee manager Atto Addo, is a tricky tie against the Cranes of Uganda on 26 March while Nigeria meet the Eagles of Mali on the same day.
