THE Igbo Renaissance Forum (IRF) has criticized the Nigeria Police Force over its alleged inconsistent stance on the establishment of state police, which the pan-Igbo group believes demonstrates a lack of seriousness in addressing the country’s security challenges.

“The Nigeria Police Force’s inconsistency on the issue of state police is deeply concerning and reflects a lack of seriousness in addressing the country’s security challenges,”  the IRF said in a statement signed by its International Coordinator, Nze Ugo-Akpe Onwuka (Oyi) made available to Eighteen-Eleven Media in Lagos.

“We believe that the establishment of state police is a crucial step towards enhancing security and restoring peace in Nigeria”, Nze Onwuka continued. “However, the current flip-flopping by the police force undermines public confidence and hinders effective security measures.”

During a recent press briefing at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Okolo clarified that his views on state police were personal and not representative of the official stance of the Inspector-General of Police or the Nigeria Police Force. However, the IRF emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent and unified public position on critical issues.

The IRF stands ready to support any efforts aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians,” IRF stressed. “It is imperative for the Nigeria Police Force to present a unified front and articulate a clear strategy for combating insecurity.”
