IT’S OFFICIAL: Osinbajo Declares To Run For President

The Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo this morning announced his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.

He joins other prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, Minister of Transport, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi to slog it out for the sole APC ticket.

Prof. Osinbajo’s declaration is coming after weeks of speculation and horse-trading. Some APC stalwarts believe he shouldn’t contest against his political godfather, Mr Tinubu. Osinbajo served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Lagos State during the administration of Mr Tinubu between 1999 to 2007. He also became Vice-President in place of allegedly favoured Tinubu over issues of religion. Tonibu and the President, Muhammadu Buhari are Muslims and it was reasoned that a Muslim-Muslim ticket on the ballot would deny the APC victory in the 2015 election.

The Vice-President, during his declaration, promised to turn around the country in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture health, administration of justice, etc.
