THE crisis rocking the Benue State chapter of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed a worrisome dimension earlier today as anti-riot police operatives took over the party’s secretariat.

As early as 7 am, a detachment of mobile and regular Police operatives, including men of the Civil Defence Corps and others took over the gates, blocking roads leading to the secretariat.

They used their operational vehicles to block all roads leading to the secretariat.

The Police Command also stopped the State Executive Council Meeting ( SEC) and APC stakeholders meeting by the Comrade Austin Agada-led exco of the party slated for today.

In a letter addressed to the APC chairman Comrade Austin Agada, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, said: ”The State Executive Council meeting and all kinds of political meetings be suspended till further notice.”

The letter signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCP) Samuel Gimba said the SEC meeting must be suspended based on a directive from Governor Hyacinth Alia suspending all forms of political meetings and gatherings in the state.

The decision, according to police, is due to the volatile security atmosphere in Benue.

Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that there has not been love lost between the governor and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),  Senator George Akume.
