The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reportedly uncovered a drug laboratory situated in the highbrow Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lekki, Lagos.

Notice to residents of the estate signed by Yusuff Morufat, General Manager of Victoria Garden City Property Owners and Residents Association (VGCPORA) informed them that the NDLEA on Saturday 30th July 2022 at about 15:10hrs carried out a sting operation at K-5A/2 Road based on intelligence gathering. The notice further informed residents that the property in question is occupied by a tenant, Mr and Mrs Emeka Nzewi.

“The operation confirmed a meth lab operation on the premises. Mr Emeka Nzewi and accomplices have been arrested while the property will be sealed by the state government”.

Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that as a result of the foregoing, VGCPORA has observed that property owners do not conduct a proper background check before lease. While noting that such an act exposes other residents to a security risk, it said it will make background checks mandatory for new residents before access cards will be issued or renewed for existing residents.

“The act of Mr Emeka Nzewi has exposed all occupants of properties around Road 14 to hazardous meth lab chemicals used and waste generated from production.

“According to the NDLEA officials, all boreholes, water supply and plants 500 metres away from K-5A/2 Road 14 have been contaminated.

“Therefore, VGCPORA, in conjunction with the NDLEA, will conduct a test of water supply to properties around K-5A/2 Road 14”.
