NFF Appoints Finidi George As Super Eagles Head Coach

FINIDI George has been appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced Finidi’s appointment in a communique on Monday.

George, after making a name for himself at Ajax in the Netherlands, being a leading figure in a team that won eight major titles, including the 1995 Champions League, he played several years in Spain with Real Betis, Real Mallorca also having a brief spell in England with Ipswich Town before retiring.

Finidi was an important member of the Nigeria team during the 1990s, appearing in two World Cups with four games to show for.

Finidi played throughout his footballing career for Nigeria with his iconic number 7 jersey. His career in Nigeria started with Calabar Rovers, Iwanyawu National and Sharks of Port Harcourt.

In September 2021, Enyimba F.C. named Finidi as their new head coach.

He won his first title as a coach on the 11th of June 2023, winning the Nigeria Premier League at Onikan Stadium in Lagos.

George Finidi, born 15 April 1971, is expected to lead Nigeria’s quest to reach the World Cup finals in 2026 and the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
