Ogun: Three Police Officers Arrested For Robbing Motorist

THREE Police Officers have been arrested, tried in an orderly room trial and dismissed from service for robbing a motorist in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.

The Police officers, attached to the Ijebu-Ife division, including Inspector Taiwo Kolawole (AP/No 341113), Inspector John Ogbe (AP/No 309292), Corporal Idowu Sunday (No 513707), and a civilian, Adesiyan Mathew, who served as the driver during the robbery operation, were nabbed following a report by the victim of the robbery operation.  

While parading the suspects today (30th January 2024) at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu noted that the three officers have been tried in an orderly room trial, dismissed from service, and will soon face charges in court.

According to Kashimao Emmanuel, the victim of the robbery, on 12th January 2024, four armed men, posing as Police officers, demanded his phone while he was driving his Toyota Venza car. Despite initially refusing, Emmanuel said he layer complied when one of the assailants fired a shot into the air. 

The officers took him away, transferred Three Hundred and Twelve Thousand Naira (N312,000.00) from his account to an Opay account No. 9097829766  and thereafter released him in Ijebu-Ode.

Upon receiving the report, the DPO called the Opay account of a POS operator, delaying the funds and leading to the arrest of Corporal Idowu Sunday at a POS shop in Ibadan garage. His accomplices, Inspector Taiwo Kolawole and Inspector John Ogbe, along with driver Adesiyan Mathew, were subsequently apprehended.

Recovered items include a Type 06 rifle with breach no. 23286, 10 rounds of live ammunition, an AK47 rifle with breach no. 804274, 6 rounds of live ammunition, and a Toyota Camry car with registration number NO APP 684 DX.

Commissioner Alamutu disclosed that two additional complainants had come forward, identifying the suspects as having previously similarly robbed them.
