Port Harcourt Area I Customs Command Generates N28Bn, Records 119 Seizures in Q1 2023

THE Port Harcourt I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has made a total revenue of Twenty-Eight Billion, Five Hundred and Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Eight Naira (N28,507,808,031) only from January to March 2023.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Wada Chedi, who gave a comparative analysis of the year 2022, noted that the previous year had a record of Twenty-Three billion, One Hundred and Forty-Six Million, Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Forty-Three Naira (N23,146,320,043) only which shows a difference of Three Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty-Four Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Four Naira (N3,364,939.704) only. 

“In 2022, the Command generated Twenty-Three Billion, One Hundred and Forty-Six Million, Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Forty-Three Naira (N23,146,320,043) only from January to March. But this year 2023, the Command was able to make a total sum of Twenty-Eight Billion, Five Hundred and Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Eight Naira (N28,507,808,031) only. This represents a positive difference of three billion, three hundred and sixty-four million, nine hundred and thirty-nine thousand, seven hundred and four naira.” he stated.

According to the CAC, the Command also recovered the total sum of Five Hundred and Eighty-Two Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred and Forty-One Naira (N582,576,341.00) only from demand notices issued due to underpayment of duties. “This figure surpassed the previous year. The year 2022 had a record of Three Hundred and Seventy-Three Million, Seventy Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred and One Naira”, he said.

In the area of anti-smuggling, Wada stated that the Command recorded a total seizure of One Hundred and Nineteen (119) from January to March 2023. The seizures recorded represents a 30.76% increase as against the preceding year which had ninety (90) seizures.

The increase in the number of seizures recorded in Port Harcourt 1 Area Command shows the doggedness and ever-unrelenting effort of the operatives of the Command. We will continue to make this axis a hot place for smugglers.” Wada Chedi assured.

Wada Chedi thanked all sister agencies and other stakeholders for their support towards the improved revenue collection in the first quarter of 2023. He further advised traders to embrace compliance to enable them enjoy trade facilitation measures designed by the Service. 

The CAC further appreciated the CGC, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), and his management team for according to the Command all the necessary support that translated into the success story achieved by the Command.
