IN the end, there was no miracle in Dar es Salaam and there will be no more CAF Confederation’s Cup football for the Pride of Rivers this season.

Rivers United delivered a performance to be proud of at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam but the players’ inability to score only meant their CAF Confederation’s Cup dream was kept alive until the dying seconds. The match ended in a scoreless draw.

But, ultimately, the damage was done in the first leg. This gutsy, gallant display could not quite repair the blow of that 0-2 defeat to Young Africans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium eight days ago during the first leg,  quarter-final fixture.

As the team manager had promised, Rivers United gave everything. It wasn’t quite enough. Pride has been restored but the quest for Africa’s club prize will have to wait for another year.

Rivers United will now turn attention to the Federation’s Cup with a round of 64 tie against Enyimba FC at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Thursday 4th May 2023.
