A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Femi Falana has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not be blamed for the issuance of two different BIVAS reports to the candidates.

Barrister Falana made this known during an interview he granted to Arise News TV during the morning show programme earlier today.

When Mr. Falana was asked why Governor Ademola Adeleke should be at the receiving end of INEC’s mistakes. Falana responded that where over-voting is proven, the beneficiaries will be punished.

He stated further that INEC should not be held responsible for the problems of over-voting but the electorate should be blamed for the issuance of two to three different BIVAS reports to candidates.

Barrister Falana said this would serve as a lesson for the people in the upcoming elections that the electorate should be properly captured before they are allowed to cast their vote.

It would be recalled that the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal last week sacked Governor Adeleke over the irregularities in the election that produced him, as governor of the state.

The petitioner, Gboyega Oyetola had clamoured for Adeleke’s removal as governor of the state on two grounds, namely Adeleke’s eligibility to contest the election and claims of over-voting in some polling units across ten local governments in the state.
