Kano Traffic Officer Rejects N500,000 Bribe

An official of Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) Halilu Kawo Jalo, has been commended for rejecting a bribe offer made to him to release confiscated bottles of alcoholic drinks. He was reported to have said that it is unIslamic to consume alcohol.

Linda Ikeji Blog (LIB,) reported that the agency on Thursday, 28th July 2022 intercepted two trucks conveying over 2000 crates of alcoholic drinks worth over N50 Million.

The Managing Director of KAROTA, Hon. Baffa Babba Dan rewarded Jalo, who intercepted the trucks with a N1million after he rejected a N500,000 bribe from the truck owners to release the drinks.

“We intercepted the trucks on Obasanjo Road heading to Sabon Gari Area of the State. They offered me a bribe but I refused to take it because I know the damage alcohol causes to lives,” Jalo said.

“It is unIslamic to consume alcohol and also against the teaching of Islam to take bribes, these made me do the right thing,” he added.
